California's VFX Biz

Not growing, at the moment.



Nearly two dozen VFX firms have closed or gone bankrupt in the last decade. A film subsidy bill working its way through the state Legislature would give qualifying VFX houses a 20-25 percent tax credit. But the industry doesn't have a union to fight for it, and it's up against big Hollywood studios. ...

This is just a teensy bit wrong.



The Animation Guild has been up in Sacramento tub-thumping for Visual Effects and animation, so yeah, there IS a labor organization fighting for VFX.



But the media overlooks the fact that TAG has repped visual effects at different studios going back to the middle nineties. And aren't animated features one large visual effect anyway?
