Many of our new freshmen students don't know that, as part of the Bucks Big Deal, they are entitled to a free 1TB USB 3.0 external hard drive. All our animation & VFX students get an automatic 5GB of storage on their local network here at the Uni, but this space tends to fill up fast, especially once you start rendering high resolution images and large movie files. With that in mind, a free external hard drive is a great way store everything you need for your three year journey at Bucks. And, with a whole terrabyte of storage, the chances are you will never run out.

The free hard drives form part of the Bucks Big Deal, which aims to make sure you don't get landed with a bunch of hidden extra costs during your time at Uni. We know that our students are on a budget, so we try to anticipate your expenses and make sure they are covered as far as possible.

The Big Deal - no nasty surprises, no extra expenses

To collect your free external hard drive you will need to go to Media Resources on the ground floor of the Gateway Building (opposite the TV studios), and present your Bucks ID card.

Activities Week Comes to Bucks! - Monday November 17th

Activities Week at Bucks

Monday November 17th is the start of Activities Week at Bucks - a chance to explore the many and diverse aspects of life at the university, and tackle something new, exciting and different. It's all organised through the Bucks Student Union and forms part of the Bucks Big Deal - which aims to offer our students great value for money, making sure you're not confronted with unexpected costs or extra expenses. Best of all Activities Week is a chance to try your hand at stuff you've never done before.

Some of the activities this year include:

• Dance lessons
• Metal casting
• Learn sign language
• Spanish lessons
• Rock climbing
• Bubble football
• Ceramics
• CV writing
•  First Aid

The activities are many and varied and all are free. Be warned though - the popular sessions will fill up fast, so book early. But most of all - have fun! It's a break from your regular classes and a chance to try something completely different.

All About The Bucks Big Deal

What is The Bucks Big Deal?  From September 2014, Bucks New University is investing further in enhancing our students' experience.  Most UK universities expect students to meet a wide variety of costs (in addition to student fees) for books and course equipment, events, membership of clubs and societies, sport activities and social trips, and many students don't realise how expensive these extra costs can be. Here at Bucks we recognize the importance of reducing these additional costs, and have a great range of provision to help make your university experience successful, enjoyable and affordable.

The Gateway Building hosts our library - open 24/7

Here's what Bucks has in store for you:

• Any additional costs for your course (such as textbooks, field trips, equipment or materials) will be made clear upfront to enable you to budget
• To support your success on your course, the University will provide a course-specific package which can include: essential textbooks, equipment and materials, photocopying credits, and a contribution to the cost of field trips, up to a value of £1,000 over three years
• Means-tested bursaries to cover essential field trip costs above the standard package 
• 24 hour access to certain services in term time - The Library and IT suites at the High Wycombe campus, and a cafe, and extended access to studios, and events/ dance spaces 
• A fund to assist with travel costs to attend job interviews, work placements and internships, because we know you value employability
• Graduating for free - the University will pay for gown hire for graduating students (2014 entry and onwards.

All these benefits are in addition to our unique Big Deal package. Bucks is the only UK university to offer our students free access to a wide range of activities including free events, sport, society membership, skills workshops and training.
